In this years Spring General Conference, I really enjoyed Elder Ballard's talk on Daughter's of God. I thought he had a good balance of communicating the importance of motherhood but also the importance of developing your own gifts and talents. This balance in the LDS world can be SO hard to establish. So in my efforts to follow his council I have thought of some things that I would like to work on and do in my life and self-discovery process!
1. Embrace my imperfections and realize that I need to savor the good moments as they come! It is important to find joy in the peaks and valleys of life.
2. Often, as women I think we feel guilt more than we should- I love it when President Hinckley said "Do your best. Which you usually do!" Amen to that.
3. One of my favorite quotes is "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle."-anonymous
The one thing that I think all happy people have in common is they are kind and thoughtful-I want to strive to be more like this, because it is so true that no person is without trials or battles that they face on a daily basis.
4. I would love to start a business or a micro-credit organization in a different country and teach less-fortunate people how to provide for themselves and overcome obstacles. Keep watching PBS because one of these days I am going to be on there!
5. Learn how to be a kid again-Brody I am going to rely a lot on you for this one. :)I love laughter and how innocent kids are. Sleeping on the trampoline, searching for bugs, and using my imagination.
6. Travel the world with my family, go to Italy and ride in those romantic boats, go to Anna Maria Island, FL (this is where I nannied) and catch crabs on the beach at night- This is every little boys dream...highly recommend it-BTW Dustin will you be my personal pilot?
7. Master the guitar. I think everyone secretly wishes they could be a rock star. There are somedays I wish I could jam out, wear a baseball hat backwards, and just sing at the top of my lungs!
8. Write a novel or a children's book-I just think that would be so fun!
9. Go back to school and get my MBA. I think it is so important to continue your education-the world changes so fast and it is hard to keep up to date on things. For all you women out there that are contemplating it---do it. Even if it is just for fun!
10. Most importantly, continue to love my Savior, my family and the person I am and will become---- in doing so hopefully I will become a better wife, mother, friend, and woman!
